This week’s playlist is a compilation of dark but beautiful songs sung by women who get it. These women know that they may not be “the good girl” they were supposed to be, but they are more themselves that way.
Last week was rather trying, to be incredibly nondescript, but it reminded me of something incredibly powerful too. It reminded me of what it really means to be not just a woman, but a person.
This may not sound revolutionary, but sometimes circumstances come around that remind us of these things. And in a digital world full of stark white walls with inspirational prints and marble backdrop Instagram photos, sometimes I need a reminder that it is perfectly fine to not only have my dark corners, but pull up a chair, no longer light up a cigarette (I’m really trying), and get comfortable there. Without darkness, one cannot know what light is.
If you jumped here, I can’t say as I blame you. But the one thing I hope you take away from this post (other than awesome music) is that you can embrace your dark corners. I give you permission to be you, warts and all.
