I’m on a platform kick this week, but I think that sharing about the platforms we choose for business is super important. Also, I’ve shared about values before, but really, values are a deep and layered subject that I don’t think we could ever totally cover. But there are a few things that I wanted to share in particular to where you can share your brand values, which if you’re creating a personal brand, includes your own values.
This post isn’t going to be super long, but it’s got what you need. So without fluffing up the intro : ) here we go.
What Your Values Are
These are the bits of you that guide the way you live your life and run your business. Your value can be based in a faith or just what feels right in the world. This code of conduct is what shapes the decisions you make. Values are the boundaries that we set for ourselves to go through life knowing that we can make decisions in a concise way that makes us feel good about what we have chosen.
This is the where. This is where you are you get to strut your values stuff. This is where your values live other than your heart and mind. The platforms that you choose to share on show what you hold important, whether you know it or not. For example, your Instagram is where you can speak to your audience in a way that makes sense for all of them. Whereas, if you email them, that is a more personal connection that you can explore.
Choosing where you speak to people and how you speak to them reflects on your values as a person and a business owner.
No, no! Don’t run! Writing copy that expresses your values isn’t hard, I promise. It can be as simple as what you say as well as what you don’t say. The perfect example of this is swearing. Not for it? Then don’t swear. People who actually care will appreciate the fact that your posts don’t have a four letter word that would make anyone uncomfortable. If it’s something that you don’t have a huge stance on, that’s ok too.
Another big one that nearly everyone can relate to is religion in business. If you pray for folks that need it, there is nothing wrong with sharing with someone that you will be praying for them. If you journal everyday based on a tarot card pull and want to share an epiphany you had while doing so, do it.
Your audience is going to appreciate your openness about your values, even if it is something that they don’t actually call out.
Are you one of those people that is constantly, publicly encouraging others? Are you one of those people who gossips and talks shit behind other people’s backs? Those are showing your values. I’m not trying to put anyone on blast, but we all judge people by their actions. Do we all hold our judgement to be someone else’s truth? Not necessarily. But what we put out into the world, whether it is actually within our values or not, is what people know of us.
So how are you showing your values?
The One Thing To Remember
Are you currently known how you want to be known? If so, brava! Good on you. If not, remember that a little bit of mindfulness and self awareness can go a long freaking way.
I know that you have values that you adhere to. Share those with people. Share them so that your potential clients remember that you’re a person. Share them so people you network with know the IRL you.
IRL you is pretty great I would think. So own it.
